The leading Thompson Reuters ONE market data application provides a comprehensive solution that has been progressively enhanced over time. Some of the core components rely on a proven mainframe architecture where the applications expertise reside with a team of experienced developers. As part of a drive to offer increased client functionality, additional offshore resources were added who needed to gain applications expertise as quickly as possible, and ensure that the on-going coordination between multiple development centres remain coordinated.

EZSource was identified early in the process as the only applications analysis platform able to support the PL/1, Assembler and CA ADS/O languages in combination with the IDMS database, along with the high level of functionality needed for the required in-depth understanding to accelerate the ability for all development and support staff to reach 'expert level' applications understanding.

EZSource is used across teams in the UK and India, integrated with CA Endevor to automate the synchronisation of analysis as the code base is updated. The new development centre has achieved a high level of productivity ahead of expectations and key metrics defined as part of the development process to ensure application quality and coding standards are maintained.

At the onset of a major change program to improve the customer facing applications many of the aspects of the existing applications where not understood or documented adequately in order to plan the project and understand the application boundaries for the proposed architecture. Existing bank resources were fully utilised on current projects, so any solution needed to minimise the involvement of the bank for key tasks.

Delivered as an off-site service in a matter of months, EZSource: Document automated the delivery of a complete set of technical application documentation, application metrics and business rule understanding for the key processes – discovering the actual transaction logic and data involved.

By automating the assessment and production of application technical documentation of the core banking applications and underpin the documentation of key business processes, EZSource was fundamental to the planning process in terms of resources, budgets and timescales. Once the target operating model was defined, EZSource helped the reuse and integration of the existing COBOL, Assembler IDMS applications with the new open systems platforms to achieve the program milestones with minimum risk.

To meet an executive vision for an application modernisation program to help ING Life be flexible, creative and scaleable in meeting the specific needs of Japanese customers, regulators and ING’s key competitors.
